The garden of Margaret Kerr, at 1006 Springs Fireplace Road in East Hampton, NY, will open to the public on Saturday, May 3, and on Saturday, June 21, 2008, to benefit the Garden Conservancy and Bridge Gardens Trust. Designed by Kerr, this garden surrounds house and studios on two acres extending to the wetlands of Accabonac Harbor. In a courtyard highlighted with fountain, lily pool, and espaliered pear trees, Kerr collects plants grown in the Middle Ages. In the spring, drifts of thousands of daffodils bloom in adjacent fields. Kerr’s brick rug sculptures, inspired by tribal Middle Eastern carpets, are placed throughout the expanse. The Kerr garden will open under the auspices of the open days program of the Garden Conservancy—as will many other outstanding private gardens on Eastern Long Island, in May, June, and July. These and other gardens across the country are listed in the Open Days Directory. For more information, visit online at www.opendaysprogram.org or call 1-888-842-2442.
